Sometimes I can’t find what I want in the store. I have a clear image in my mind of what I want but couldn’t find it anywhere. Never fear! If you can’t find what you want, you can make it! Fortunately for me, in this instance the creation is a simple one.
Start with paper mache ball ornaments. I used to find these at the craft store but this year they are available online only. While I didn’t worry too much about perfectly straight lines and centered objects, I did pencil my concept before adding colour.
After that I filled it in with marker. I used nothing special. In fact I used the same crayola washable markers my kids use. I even made these while watching a movie with the family. My 4-year old acted as creative director of the project.
Before long I was done. I set the ornaments on our pineapple to dry. (Note: this is not the same pineapple as before. We ate that one. This pineapple is a new one.)
I thought they would make it to our big tree, but our Creative Director has already decided which friend will get which ornament. I’ve committed to not suppress my children’s generous thoughts.
Grab a paper mache ornament and some markers and see what you (or your kids) create. It’s so simple!
