Diana Panton‘s second album for families, A Cheerful Little Earful, presents a sunny collection of beloved classics in her style I can best describe as lullaby jazz. The songs curated for this second album are more upbeat than those of her first. However, despite the animation found here, Ms. Panton remains true to herself. She clearly embodies a gentle optimist. In this album the music organically unfolds from the beginnings of a smile. And I dare you to not smile as you listen.
Rounding out the trio of musicians, Reg Schwager and Don Thompson unify the sound and provide perfect support to the soothing vocals. All three can boast illustrious awards, however they humbly present the music to speak for itself. Surely Ira Gershwin, Cole Porter, and the rest are pleased with such honest and heartfelt renditions of their masterpieces. I know I felt the sunshine emanating from my heart as I listened to this music.
