Friends, for the first time since parenthood, and to celebrate our 20th anniversary, and for so many other reasons, my husband and I went away without the kids. Yes. This was the first time we have gotten away without the kids since kids. (That’s 15 years for those of you keeping track at home.)
And what did I do before we left? Laundry. We needed clean clothes, of course. I wanted to start the kids’ week with my Mum in clean clothes. The bedding needed to be washed. The towels.
And do you know what I did as soon as we returned? Laundry. All our clothes needed to be washed. We needed to wash bedding as people returned to their rightful rooms.
And whether or not a mother goes on vacation, what does she do a lot? Laundry. Laundry laundry laundry. There are days I think I’m going to drown in laundry.
I prefer to use products that are fragrance free or very light fragrance. While I prefer not to spend my whole discretionary budget on laundry products I do like my products to work. Lately I’ve added Biz laundry booster to my loads. It helps with teenage funk as well as toddler stains. And it doesn’t fade my clothes.
While my husband takes his suits to the dry cleaner I cannot bring myself to do the same with my dry clean only garments. For those I use Dryel. I have for years and I don’t see that changing. Why would I spend all the time and money going to the cleaners when I can toss the item in the dryer and be done with it all?
Maybe there are people who love spending their time and money on laundry. Maybe there’s something zen about scrubbing stains or making it to the cleaner one minute before it closes. But for me, I prefer to do it once, do it right, and do it at home.
Finally, I hate dryer sheets. Years ago I switched to dryer balls and last year learned how to make them myself from wool. I’ll never go back.
I can’t wait to tell you all about my trip. It was amazing! But first I need to move the laundry along. I’m not kidding, it just beeped.
