The newest member of our family doesn’t take up much space, doesn’t make any noise, makes us more comfortable, and saves us money. It’s a smart thermostat! Now don’t get me wrong, I love my messy, noisy, climb-all-over-me, budget hemorrhaging children. But I’m also happy for some help to bring balance to my home.
While this isn’t the first thermostat I have installed, this was more complicated an install than the previous one. My 1960s era house isn’t wired with a C (common) wire. My research proved that some smart thermostats are completely incompatible in homes without a c-wire. Fortunately, the Kono Lux comes prepared for that possibility. I followed the instructions to install the additional power bridge that would provide a constant power supply to the thermostat. My biggest obstacle was locating the control panel in my furnace.
Once the thermostat was wired and we flipped the switch to power everything up, it was time to sync the thermostat with the wifi and the app. My husband completed that sooner than I was able to clean up our tools.
Many local power companies offer rebates or other incentive programs for installing smart thermostats. Mine offered me to enter a sweepstakes as soon as I logged into my Lux app.
The thermostat is so easy to use – a bazillion times easier than the last four thermostats we’ve had. Even better than the intuitive functionality, the thermostat is aesthetically sleek. We’re using the standard black faceplate but if we ever change our mind we can switch out the faceplate to match our decor. Perhaps we’ll get the paintable faceplate someday, but in the meantime I’m happy with this.
We can now control our thermostat from our phones, which will come in handy when we travel. This lovely Energy Star unit should keep us comfy and save us some cold hard cash as well.
