File this under: things I don’t know how I lived without. Finnish Himmeli are geometric creations made from straws or any other hollow tube shaped object. They are enchanting!
I started by buying a pack of coffee stirrers in red. I’m making Christmas ornaments, after all!
Side note: don’t you just love the way the straws look like on the end?
Next following tutorials I found online, I set to work. I tried a variety of sizes and designs. I quickly discovered I needed a longer needle: a doll needle was perfect for my needs. Once I got over that hurdle things came together easier for me.
Soon I was in a groove and started experimenting with patterns that required straws of different sizes.
Sadly, while I was sure I had cinnamon sticks in my pantry, I couldn’t locate them. So this final project is going to have to wait another day. In the meantime I’m getting back to my himmeli. I think I’d like to make a garland with them.
Himmeli are so beautiful! I could definitely see making them part of everyday decor. I’m so glad I came across this Finnish masterpiece!
