Okay, Friends. We’ve all been there… waiting countless time on the phone to see if your insurance will cover the doctor bill that you’re about to take on.
I have had four babies in the last eight years and it is not easy to navigate through the mountains of health insurance information that’s sent to me before and after the baby is born. There is so much to know- is the provider I picked in network or out of network and what the heck does that even mean?! So you’re saying… if I want to go to this doctor that has an awesome reputation for practically invisible c/section scars I have to pay out of pocket? and this Pediatrician and the office is covered but their partner at the same practice isn’t covered? Sheesh. It’s insanely frustrating.
Wouldn’t it be nice to have an outside knowledgable source to help you navigate big medical from home? I recently participated in a call with a company that is looking to do just that. They want to create a forum where you would feel comfortable calling and asking all your health insurance questions to. A group that will listen and have an actual response instead of evasive answers.
Fairos wants to change the perception of medical insurance. Now that is something that I can definitely get on board with.
I had an experience recently with my 4 year old daughter. My husband had been laying brick pavers in our back yard to make it nicer and give us more seating area for a patio set. He had large stacks of bricks outside and for some reason my kids loved playing with the bricks no matter how many times I warned them of the danger. This particular day, my sweet four year old was barefoot and dropped one of the bricks on her big toe and sliced it open. It’s the summer and therefore she was up way past her bedtime so her pediatrician and every urgent care around us was already closed, which left us with the option of the emergency room. We waited for over an hour to see the doctor who spent about 10 minutes with us, gave her two stitches, and sent us on our way. The bill for that visit was $700 . I’m pretty sure I threw up in my mouth a little when I opened my mail that day. Fairos is planning to offer a bill negotiation help that will negotiate with the insurance company on your behalf to determine what savings are possible, and where there’s opportunities to reduce your overall costs. I wish I had the opportunity to have that help then! All I was able to do was pay the bill.
Fairos is also hoping to offer Tele-Health which would be totally life changing for me. With four kids, I basically live in an active petri dish. They bring home so many germs that I’m now familiar with all of them. I usually know what my kids need when they get sick. For example, they each get croup every year at least once. I know what medicine they need that will stop this nasty bug dead in it’s tracks. But I didn’t go to medical school so I can’t get it for them until my doctor okays it. If I have to take my sick child into the pediatrician where all the other sick kids are just to have them tell me that they are giving my child the drug that I already knew they needed, my three other well children will all now be sick after they touch and lick (yes, lick) all the things that every other sick child has touched in the waiting room. If I was able to call on the phone and have a conversation with a doctor without risking the health of my other children, I would be over the moon! See: life changing.
