If you are a long time reader of our blog you will know that I am obsessed with royalty. I was up in the wee hours of the morning watching Will and Kate’s wedding and this year was no different for Harry’s nuptials. To be honest, I was more excited this year since a member of the British Aristocracy would be marrying a woman from the United States. Represent!
The night before my 11-year-old daughter and I purchased our elderflower cupcakes, elderflower soda, and Cornish pasties. The next morning at 4am we put on our fascinators (aka fancy hats) and settled in to watch Prince Harry of Wales marry the actress, Meghan Markle.
I remember sitting back during the wedding and realizing what a special moment in history it was. Firstly, a member of the British Royal family was marrying a divorcee and second, she was bi-racial. I loved that my daughter and I were able to watch this special moment in history take place.
For months prior to the wedding, I had scoured the internet for a special item or two to mark the special occasion and my love for all things royal. Sadly, I came up empty-handed each time. I didn’t want a teacup with Harry and Meghan’s face plastered all over it. Nor did I want an apron or dish towel. I wanted something unique, modern and fun. Something I would be proud to show off.
A few weeks later while browsing Etsy shops I came upon Jazzdoodles. I instantly loved the distinctive designs that the shop offered. After scrolling through some whimsical designs inspired by the 90’s, The Shape of Water and other fun subjects I noticed the “Royal Collection.” This collection celebrates the wedding of Harry and Meghan as well as all things Royal.
As soon as I saw the Royal Collection I knew I had to feature some of these amazing designs on the blog. The designs weren’t stuffy or swirled with calligraphy or monograms but modern and fun. They were exactly the type of items I was searching for and they were something I would be proud to show off.
Somehow I narrowed down the collection to two shirts for me to feature and oh, how I love them! The shirts are high quality, wash beautifully and the designs are colorful and fun. I can’t begin to tell you how many compliments I have gotten while wearing them out and about.
This is ‘The Royal Wedding 2018 Short-Sleeve Unisex T-Shirt.’ Isn’t it perfection? I love how the US and UK flags each make up a heart. Oh, and can I just swoon over how adorable Meghan and Harry are?! LOVE!
On or off this shirt is a piece of art.
This is the ‘Diana, Kate, Meghan and Me T-shirt’ and honestly, it makes me feel part of the team. The back says ‘Let me adjust my crown and get my day started,’ yeah that’s basically me.
Of course, I had to get the obligatory photo in front of Buckingham Palace in my new shirt.
The Royal collection features not only shirts but mugs, art prints and more. All are beautifully designed by the shop’s owner, Jasmine.
I was lucky enough to get Jasmine to take time out of her busy schedule and answer some questions about herself and her shop.
Q: Why did you start your shop?
A: After working in an advertising agency for 10 years and dealing with strict corporate branding, I began to miss the freedom of creating my own art. Although I had a steady job, there was an inner voice that kept reminding me to pursue my passion and do what I love.
Q: What is your best selling item?
A: Due to the historic Royal Wedding, my best selling items are my royal wedding tees and mugs.
Q: What inspires you?
A: I draw my inspiration from pop culture, retro cartoons, fashion, and personal life experiences.
Q: Where did you learn to design?
A: Designing was first introduced to me by my mother. As a little girl, I loved watching her sew and combine different fabrics together. Later on, I attended Design and Architecture Senior Highschool, a school geared to helping students develop their design eye. After I graduated high school I decided to pursue a Bachelor’s in Fine Arts specializing in graphic design from the University of Florida.
Q: How do you come up with an idea?
A: My creative process always begins with my sketchbook. In my sketchbook is where I record my daily thoughts or anything that visually stood out to me. Sometimes I express myself in word and other times with illustration, it usually depends on my mood. Then later that night around 3 am, I wake up with an idea. It’s a weird process but it works every time.
Q: What do you like to do in your spare time?
A: During my free time, I love to cook while listening to Frank Sinatra and other jazz classics.
Q: What is something you are working on?
A: I am currently working on a children book idea.
I absolutely LOVED learning more about Jasmine, how she gets an idea for a design and what inspires her. I hope you will stop by her Etsy shop and take a look at her beautiful designs. She has a true talent for design and I love supporting artists whenever possible.
So whether you are an anglophile, royal watcher or just a fan look to Jazzdoodles for all your future Royalty inspired pieces.
