One of my family’s favorite places to visit is Gaylord National, the Capital Region’s premier waterfront resort. In celebration of its 10 year anniversary, Gaylord National is offering Summerfest. Summerfest features fun American-themed summertime activities and an All-American Celebration.
This past weekend my children and I were able to experience Summerfest at Gaylord National and I am so excited to share all the fun we had!
Since this was our first time staying at Gaylord National I didn’t know what to expect for our accommodations. Wow, was I in for a lovely surprise. Not only is the hotel gorgeous but the rooms are just as lovely.
My children and I stayed in a room with two ultra-comfortable beds, a full bathroom, two sinks and a TV with connectivity to Netflix, Hulu, and cable. Our favorite part of our room was the balcony overlooking the atrium and the shops below.
After we explored our accommodations we decided to head down to the pool. The pool was reopened just as we arrived (we experienced a thunderstorm earlier in the afternoon) so still in our street clothes, we decided to head out to the splash pad.
Water Splashing Fun
The splash pad is perfect for kids of all ages-especially those not quite ready for the pool. My kids decided to play with some bubble wands while chasing each other around the splash pad. Fun was had by all–especially the kids who managed to get Mom in on the fun too!
Star Spangled Clues Scavenger Hunt
Next, we decided to go to the Star Spangled Clues Scavenger Hunt. The clues take you on a hunt around the resort to find the 13 stars missing from the American Flag. My kids loved searching for each star where they learned fun facts about each of the 13 original colonies. One of the clue’s paid homage to my home state, New Jersey. Did you know that it is illegal to pump your own gas there? Crazy but true! Once you finish the scavenger hunt you can be entered to receive a free overnight stay.
Our dinner at National Past Time Bar & Grill included mini sliders, chicken tenders, fried mac & cheese, tater tots and more. I loved that the menu included items that the whole family could enjoy. However, my favorite item had to be the s’more tart…yum!
‘A National Haunting’ Ghost Tour
The sun was setting across the Potomac as we embarked on ‘A National Haunting’ Ghost Tour. This walking tour is perfect for all ages and takes you around the beautiful grounds of the resort while hearing fun spooky stories. My kids had a blast learning about the different haunts.
Great American Road Trip Atrium Show presented by bubly™
As we arrived back in the atrium the Great American Road Trip Atrium Show presented by bubly™ was just beginning. The laser light show takes you on the great American tradition of a summer road trip. Colorful laser lights dance around the atrium while the water jets from the fountain splish and splash all in coordination with the fun classic tunes. We all loved watching this amazing show of water, and lights. It was quite the spectacle!
Movie Under the Stars presented by bubly™
We had a choice of participating in Movie Under the Stars presented by bubly™ where you can watch a movie on a bean bag or blanket in the atrium or dancing the night away at the Silent Disco Party. We chose the latter.
The Silent Disco Party
The Silent Disco Party was definitely my favorite activity of the night. Each person is given their own set of headphones with three channels to chose from. You can select from live music (selected by the DJ), hits of the 60’s and 70’s or 80’s hits. Next start dancing! The fun thing about the Silent Disco party is that only those wearing the headphones hear the music.
Basically, we look like dancin’ fools to everyone else walking by. It was so fun to see passerby’s reactions to us dancing-we got lots of laughs that’s for sure.
The next morning after a lovely nights rest we decided to head to breakfast at Pienza. There was so much to choose from; waffles, omelets made on the spot, french toast, freshly baked pastries, grits, freshly cut fruit, oatmeal and more. Of course, we each got a big glass of freshly squeezed orange juice as well.
(Gaylord National’s SummerFest Family Escape Package includes a Kids eat free at Pienza offer. Kids must be ages 4-11 and can enjoy a free meal per paying adult.)
Sadly, it was time to leave the resort. However, we left Gaylord National with a ton of fun memories and full stomachs. We can’t wait to head back next year to experience more fun at Gaylord National.
