Waimea Canyon Downhill Bike Tour
It’s no secret that Kauai is where my heart lives. I am lucky enough to be able to go back twice a year and feed my soul. There’s something about stepping into that tiny, open-air airport that fills my whole body with a feeling of peace and love.
I love being able to go alone with the Hubs to Kauai. It gives us time to reconnect out of the hustle and bustle that is our busy lives back in Idaho. We met on this beautiful island 13 years ago. The first time I saw him he was strolling out of the ocean with a surf board under his arm, dripping wet with curls falling all around his face, and a tan bod that made me blush. I had to meet him that day and lucky for me, he felt the same. If you had told me then that we would be married now almost 12 years with four little crazies following carefully in our shadows, I would have never believed you. Kauai is what brought us together and every time I go there it brings back a flood of happy memories.
We brought all our kids this trip but we were able to hook up with Outfitters Kauai and have a little one-on-one adventure. I have seen Waimea Canyon before, lovingly nicknamed “the Grand Canyon of the Pacific”, but I wanted to see it in a different way this time. We both love riding bicycles so we chose the Waimea Canyon Bike Downhill Tour.
Outfitters Kauai set us up with helmets and bikes, loaded us in the bus, and started the uphill journey. Our tour guides kept the drive entertaining and I was really impressed with their knowledge of the island. They had stories galore of everything we were driving past, and I didn’t even notice it had been over an hour when we reached the first look out point.
The views were absolutely incredible. Looking out into the canyon is hard to describe. You definitely feel one with the island. There was a fruit vendor at the lookout and we were able to enjoy fresh papaya as we took it all in.
(We participated in this excursion complimentary for the purpose of this review. This has in no way affected my opinion. This review is my opinion and has been written in my own words).
We hopped back in the bus and headed to our first biking spot. I was a little nervous when there wasn’t really a shoulder for us to ride on, but was surprised and relieved to see that the Outfitters Kauai bus stayed right behind the whole tour, blocking any cars from getting to us so we had the whole road! Every now and again we would pull off to the side, enjoy the views, and let the other cars go by.
It was the most amazing experience! It felt so freeing to be in the open air on a bicycle! When we got to the bottom of the canyon, our tour guides had water and cookies waiting for us. We even took some time to stop at the beach and watch the sunset. The whole excursion was so much fun! We really felt like were being taken care of by Outfitters Kauai. We would definitely like to do this again.
