Winter can be the absolute worst. Snow days and sick days can find you begging your kids to get off of the electronics (for the 20th time) only to have to entertain them yourself. When this happens I am thankful I can break out our Groovy Art Box.
Groovy Art box is a dream come true. While I love to visit a studio and paint pottery, it is a hassle at times. Getting everyone out the door, paying a studio fee and having to leave the pottery to be fired can be quite a chore. You also need to come back weeks later to collect your pottery from the studio. Here in DC, where we experience extreme traffic after 4pm, there is just no way traveling to a studio is feasible if it’s too far from your home. With Groovy Art Box you don’t need to leave your house at all–even for supplies.
With a monthly subscription, the Groovy Art Box provides all the items you need to make one pottery project a month: Paints, table paper mats, tools, pottery and more. You will receive a monthly box delivered to your door for $24.99 a month. All projects are perfect for both children or adults and the instructions (via video and written) are perfect for anyone of any age. Adaptations to the instructions are easily made for ages and experience levels.
Want to throw a ‘paint your own pottery’ party for your kids but don’t want to break the bank? This is where the Groovy Party Box comes in. For $89.95 you will receive pottery, tools, instructions paints, aprons and pottery embellishments for 5 people. Currently, a Jungle Party Package is available with more party options coming soon. With the Jungle Party Package, you can choose from Bongo the monkey bank, Ella the elephant bank, Jeffery the giraffe bank or Larry the lion bank.
My daughter and I were able to review the February Groovy Art Box and we had such an amazing time doing so. We received a paint tray, step by step instructions, brushes, water-based paint, and sealant, masking tape, a table paper mat and two pottery heart ornaments.
We had such a delightful and relaxing time spending one-on-one time together painting our pottery. Painting our pottery was such a perfect rainy day activity. I put on a movie for my seven-year-old and then my 11-year-old daughter and I got to work. After putting on some fun music we decided that we would paint the ornaments without following the instructions. While we both used a few tips from the instruction sheet such as using the masking tape and mixing paints I think we did really well on our own.
I appreciated that we only had to wait a few minutes in between each coat of paint for it to dry. Clean up was also a snap. After the pottery dried we used sealant which gave the pottery a beautiful glossy finish. We now have the ornaments proudly displayed on our bookshelf as a festive decoration for Valentine’s Day.
Groovy Art Box is such a brilliant concept and I can’t wait to review more boxes in the coming months. To purchase your own Groovy Art Box subscription click here.
