France is one of the countries my husband and I would like to visit once we are empty nesters. The architecture and landscape is something that we’d love to see with our own eyes. Oh, and how could I forget the French cuisine? Baguettes, pastries, cheese and so much more. Luckily, I found something to hold us over until we can actually make it to France. Petit Pot is a Californian company that specializes in making Pot de Crème (pudding), cookies and Riz Au Lait (rice pudding).
Petit Pot began in 2014 when Maxime noticed that something was missing from grocery shelves: Pot de Crème. This pudding is a traditional dessert in France, yet is relatively unknown in America. As a fan of all things sweet Maxime knew he had to fix this and started Petit Pot in San Francisco. Maxime combined his knowledge of French pastries with California’s quality cuisine market to produce authentic French desserts.
Petit Pot kindly sent Riz Au Lait and all five flavors of Petit Pot’s Pot de Crème; Dark Chocolate, Madagascar Vanilla, Salted Caramel, Lemon Curd, and Coffee for my family and I to sample. The Pot de Crème is unlike any pudding I have ever had before. The pudding comes in small little glass jars and is creamy and decadent. It’s difficult to put into words just how unbelievable it is.
My husband and I had to find a new hiding place everytime we had a Pot de Crème because our children wanted to eat them all. Seriously, they are SO delicious! My favorite out of all the Pot de Crèmes sent was definitely the Dark Chocolate with the runner-up being the coffee. While my husband’s favorite was the Salted Caramel with the Lemon Curd coming in at a close second.
My husband and I both really love rice pudding so it was such a treat when we got to try Petit Pot’s Riz Au Lait. Made of gluten-free, organic and local ingredients the Riz Au Lait has the perfect amount of vanilla thanks to the incorporation of organic vanilla seeds. Add rice and a few more ingredients and you have an absolutely divine dessert.
I am extremely grateful that all of Petit Pot puddings are individually portioned as it is quite easy to overindulge in these delicious desserts. While French desserts may be rich they are served in small portions which is something I love.
So while we may not be able to step onto French soil anytime soon, I am grateful that Petit Pot can give us a small taste of France.
