Hanalei on the North Shore of Kauai is one of my favorite places in the world. The lush scenic beauty looks like something right out of Jurassic Park (duh-that’s because it is!). Ashley and our families traveled up to the North Shore to snorkel and play at Tunnels beach.

Since there is one road around the whole island coming back to the South Shore can take a few hours during Kauai’s ‘rush hour’ (which basically means people are heading back home from the beach). Our kids were growing restless and without some sustenance in their tummies for the hour and a half drive back we knew they’d be cranky. Thankfully, Ashley and I had heard about Chicken In A Barrel and decided to stop by for some dinner.
Chicken In A Barrel was started by Mike Pierce in 2010 who had 35 years of cooking BBQ. His intent; to spread the love of God and culinary joy with all of his customers. With God as the center of his business, family and dedication bloom all around.
Chicken In A Barrel is family owned and run and quality is essential. Chicken In A Barrel has two locations on Kauai- Kapaa and Hanalei.
His 35 years of cooking BBQ definitely shines through the delicious food! There were so many yummy choices, it was hard to pick. One of my favorite ‘local grinds’ is a Teriyaki Cheeseburger. I’ve tried them at different spots all over the island so I had high expectations of this dish, and it did not disappoint! It was succulent and juicy and the flavor combination was perfection.
My hubby had the Ribs plate and said they were some of the best ribs he had ever eaten. We actually watched them pull the big slabs of ribs right out of the barrel smokers! Since our Little Man is teething and munching on everything these days, the Hubs handed him a rib bone to naw on and he was in absolute heaven.
My kiddos are little chili connoisseurs and they were in love with the
Chicken In A Barrel home made chili.
Our pickier eaters ate cheese quesadillas, and so all was right and well in the world.
We had a great time meeting the Chicken In A Barrel family and enjoying the fun atmosphere of the Hanalei shopping center, set in one of the most beautiful spots in the world. If you’re a lover of all things BBQ, make a stop at Chicken In A Barrel next time you’re visiting Kauai 🙂
