When my 9 year old daughter told me two weeks ago that she wanted her 10th birthday party at home this year I happily obliged. After I agreed to the party I started stressing out. What was I going to feed a group of 9 & 10 year old kids? How would I entertain them? Most importantly how could I have a birthday on a budget? After a few deep breaths I remembered with glee that I was a member of BJ’s Wholesale Club! I no longer doubted that I could get the job done. I knew that if it was a large or small party BJ’s Wholesale would have everything I needed to throw an amazing birthday party on a budget!
Before I headed to BJ’s Wholesale Club my daughter and I sat down and discussed the party. First, we decided on the food she would like served at the party; personalized pizzas, a cake, cookies and some fruit. Next, we discussed the entertainment; a popular movie we owned (that everyone loved) would be playing, the kids would bob for clementines (an original idea?!) and we would also set up a few board games we owned for everyone to play. Decorations were up to me, so with a list of the things I needed to purchase I headed off to my local BJ’s Wholesale Club. When I got there I picked up;
-a beautiful chocolate cake with buttercream icing which I had personalized within minutes at the bakery counter
-a helium tank which came with 50 balloons and white ribbon
-a package of chocolate chip cookies
-a party pack of Boboli (included 8 pizza crust and sauces)
-Wellsley Farms Shredded Mozzarella Cheese
-a bag of clementines (my daughter wanted to go bobbing for clementines???!!!)
I got everything for under $75!
Oh, when I was in store I was SO excited to learn that BJ’s Wholesale Club now makes two tiered cakes (at a fraction of specialty bakery prices). You can add photos, customized designs and even your favorite licensed themed characters; Darth Vader, Sesame Street, Disney Princesses, Superheroes and more! The cakes are only $29.99 and can serve 50 more more guests. Unfortunately, a few of our guests canceled a few days before the party so a tiered cake would have been too much cake for us. I am totally getting one for our next party–aren’t they amazing? Ordering your cake is super easy, just visit your local BJ’s Wholesale Club’s bakery and fill out an order form (orders placed within 24 hours notice is preferred).
As soon as I got home with my goodies from BJ’s Wholesale Club I started to set up for the birthday party. I filled up some of the balloons with helium and tied them around the room. I also blew up a few and placed them around the room so the kids could kick them around if they wanted to. I placed the food items on the table and got started arranging the pizza ingredients.
When our party guests arrived I had them make their own pizzas using the Boboli Party pack I picked up at the store. They had a blast decorating their own pizzas with the Wellsley Farm Mozzarella Cheese, canned olives and the pepperoni slices.
Next they went bobbing for clementines (I believe my daughter thought this game up). I just placed six clementines in a clear bowl and they all had a go trying to pick up the clementines with their mouths. It was funny to watch them try to get the slippery citrus.
The kids gobbled up their personalized pizzas, grapes, clementines and of course asked for dessert next. After singing ‘Happy Birthday’ they loaded their plates with cookies and delicious birthday cake while all agreeing that everything was ‘delicious!’
Everyone played a few rounds of their favorite board games and then watched the birthday girl open her presents. Before we knew it, it was time for the festivities to end.
