When I had my first baby, I was filled with excitement and love. I wanted to to do everything perfect. Be the perfect mother, have the perfect amount of patience, feed her the perfect food… When she was six months old I could barely stand the excitement I felt now that it was time to feed her some real food. I went right to the store and bought a variety of name brand baby food; bananas, peaches, sweet potatoes, etc. I took everything home and pulled it all out to examine my purchase and decide what to feed her first. I noticed that the shelf life was two years! Food with a two year shelf life didn’t seem like something I wanted to feed my sweet little innocent baby. I thought I would give it a try anyway… babies eat this stuff all the time, right??
My little six month old was not a fan of any of the choices I had made from the store, she spit everything out with an adorable face of disgust. I mean seriously, have you tried that store bought food you attempt to shovel into your baby’s mouth?? Yuck. It tastes as terrible as it looks. I knew there had to be a better solution to the baby food issue so I started browsing book stores and discovered a whole new world of homemade baby food (this was in the days before Pinterest ruled my life).
I have been making my kids baby food ever since then. Turns out it’s super easy, and fun! I feel so much better about transitioning my kids from liquid gold breastmilk to fresh fruit and veggie purees that I made myself. It’s even more fun to feed baby with something that I made and to see her eat it and love it makes my heart so full and happy. My littles have loved my homemade baby food and it’s made it even easier for them to fall in love with eating and get used to the spoon faster.
I was super excited to be introduced to the Super Baby Food Cookbook and even more fabulous recipes for my babies. Ruth Yaron, the author, has a far reach when it comes to her books. Celebrities like Kourtney Kardashian and and Cindy Crawford have been seen reading her books, and Cindy Crawford even spoke about them on Good Morning America! Using the recipes from Ruth’s books is pretty close to perfection 🙂
