Among Friends Baking Mixes

   For those of you who follow us on twitter, facebook and instagram, my next review should come as no surprise to you. I have been a fan of Among Friends Baking Mixes since I heard about them in 2014 and have been shouting their praises ever since. If you think all baking mixes are created equal, you have never tried Among Friends Baking Mixes. Among Friends Baking Mixes are ‘full of the good stuff and free of the bad stuff’ as they contain no artificial ingredients, are gluten-free, non-GMO and made with wholesome whole grains and other premium ingredients.

Behind the brand

Among Friends, LLC, is the creation of two friends, Suzie Miller and Lizann Anderson. Like many such ventures, it began over a cup of coffee (and involved a cookie, of course). This was a mouthwatering cookie, with memorable taste and texture, handcrafted by Suzie. That’s when Lizann got out her wooden spoon and vowed to make Suzie’s cookies dense with nutrition without sacrificing great taste.

Among Friends mixes reflect Lizann and Suzie’s desire to share their baked goods with other discriminating palates. Their goal is simple: they want to help people fill their kitchens with fresh-from-the-oven baked goods made from the best ingredients. Their mixes make baking easy for people on those days when treats from scratch are impractical or well nigh impossible. Everyone has those days. Among Friends name says it all. Each of the baking mixes is handcrafted for friends and named for someone Lizann and Suzie love; a friend or family member.

My Review

Last year I had to purchase all of their mixes online but I am so pleased to announce that select Among Friends Baking Mixes are now available at Target stores nationwide. My favorites from Among Friends are Suzie Q’s Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookie Mix (chewy, chocolatey and irresistible) and Alec’s Brownie Mix (fudgy, chocolatey and rich) but who am I kidding? They are all delicious!

I will say that yes, at first I was a bit skeptical to try these baking mixes. In the past I have tried ‘healthy’ baking mixes which end up tasting like cardboard. Among Friends Baking Mixes literally made me jump for joy the moment I tasted the results of the mixes. They don’t taste healthy AT ALL, I don’t feel guilty after eating 10 cookies (well, I don’t feel AS guilty) and my whole family (including my two VERY picky kids absolutely LOVE them).

I was sent a selection of a few of the mixes from Among Friends; Alec’s Brownie Mix, Darcy’s Delish Cookie Mix and Papa Tom’s Pancake Mix.

Alec’s Brownie Mix *only available at Target* (which I was a huge fan of before reviewing them here) are absolutely delicious. When they bake they become like a large chocolate lava cake-the outside is like a classic brownie but towards the middle you get this gooey, chocolate fudge that sticks to your teeth. It tastes unbelievable…truly…my kids and I always fight over the last piece (we are major chocoholics).

I hadn’t tried Darcy’s Delish Cookie Mix (an Old Fashioned Chocolate Chip Cookie Mix) or Papa Tom’s Pancake Mix before so I was delighted to try them out for the first time. Darcy’s Delish Cookie Mix baked up quickly with the help of my four and nine year old who helped add the additional ingredients. These cookies (like the others I have made from Among Friends) are a bit smaller than your regular cookie but don’t let that size fool you, you will want to eat them all (and then some). The outside of the cookies are crispy while the inside remains soft (perfect!). My kids loved how bite sized the cookies were (perfect for them) and I enjoyed how filling they were after just four of them (those whole grains fill you up!). I loved seeing my kids enjoy the cookies while I sat back and had a “I am an awesome Mom” moment. I mean honestly, I never thought I would be getting my kids to eat whole grains-score for me!

Papa Tom’s Pancake Mix is now my go-to pancake mix on Saturday mornings. The mix serves up golden pancakes without gums or fillers or any of that bad stuff that goes into other pancake mixes. The whole family sits down and gobbles these delicious flapjacks right up. No more runny, stick to the pan, gooey in the middle pancakes. Papa Tom’s pancakes come out perfectly each and every one.

I could just go on and on about how much I adore Among Friends Baking Mixes, but I think I have said enough for now. So next time you are at Target (you can also order online via Amazon or AmongFriendsBakingMixes.com) make sure you head down the baking aisle and pick up a few packages of Among Friends Baking Mixes–you can never have too much of these high quality, delicious mixes!
