When I think of the Fall, I think of colorful leaves, a slight chill in the air, and cinnamon. The smell of freshly baked apple pie and pumpkins on the porch… There are so many fun things to do here in Idaho in the Autumn. But our most favorite of all about the Fall: The Farmstead Corn Maze and Pumpkin Festival. We buy season passes in the summertime, which is torturous since all I hear for the next month is, “is the pumpkin patch open yet?!” My girls make me draw a pumpkin on the calendar on opening day so they can mark each day off and countdown until the fun begins.
From the time you walk in to the Farmstead, you can see the fun bursting from every corner. We went opening night- of course- and my girls screamed their guts out in glee from our driveway to the Farmstead entrance. We started with dinner at the Grainery Grill with hand-dipped, foot long corn dogs and fries, and the kids can’t get enough of the “pumpkin sippers”; there’s just something about drinking from a pumpkin that makes apple juice taste even better. There’s made from scratch chili, loaded baked potatoes, roasted corn, caramel apples, fresh-squeezed lemonade, and don’t forget about my kid’s most coveted treat:
We love the corn cannons and the pumpkin blaster, and all the games in between. One of our favorite spots is the kids corral with the huge climb-on spider web, the slides creatively made from various farm tubes and twisties, and tire swings made to look like horses. But my littles most favorite is the Corn Pit! They bee line straight for that play spot as soon as we arrive and when we get home, there’s corn filled in the baby’s diaper and kernels in between the girls’ toes. Seriously that can’t be comfortable, but they love it!
My favorite is the hayride through the pumpkin patch; it’s a chance for a tired Momma to sit down and a way to keep the kids in one spot, if only for five minutes 🙂 My littles also love the cow train, they have to ride it at least twice every time we visit the Farmstead. And boy do they look cute doing it.
Some of the most popular attractions at The Farmstead are the Corn Mazes! Their claim to fame is that they are Idaho’s Original Corn Maze. They have the mini maze which is included with admission (and is plenty big enough for my littles ages five and under). This year they have a “Never Grow-Up” theme which I love because isn’t it great to just be a kid every now and again and send your worries out to Neverland?? The corn maze this year is Peter Pan! Don’t forget to leave the littles at home and come back for the Field of Screams to scare the pants off ya when the Corn Maze is haunted at night… BOO!
We love the Farmstead and genuinely look forward to spending our evenings there in the month of October. We even go trick or treating at the Farmstead during Candy in the Corn! They really know how to do it right and it shows the second you walk in 🙂
Go visit the Farmstead asap.
