I’ve said it before and I will say it again. My kids love cartoons. Don’t all kids? I do my best to make sure that those little faces see something other than a TV screen for the majority of the day, but sometimes this Momma just needs a minute.
To a mother, nap time is precious. It is the time I spend eating a Mommy lunch (no Mac and Cheese allowed), blogging, cleaning, or lets be honest here… catching up on all the shows I’ve been dying to watch on my DVR. My oldest little is almost five and I have pushed nap time on her all these years and she has ((mostly)) complied. I know I have been lucky by getting her to take her afternoon snooze all this time but unfortunately she has been trying to phase it out. My second little is only three and lives and breathes the example of her older sister. Because sister wants to skip nap now, of course she does too. This is not something I can get behind.
So to counteract lost nap time for the littles and Mommy, we’ve started “quiet movie time.” I’m sure other Moms know, one way to get your kids to sit still and be quiet is to turn on a show. I am positive this is why plopping kids in front of the TV is an abused activity. I love my kids to play and let their imaginations run wild all day, but a little “quiet movie time” can be good for both parties. The new favorite in our house is My Little Pony Friendship Is Magic: Cutie Mark Quests. The girls have watched this DVD practically every day since we started “quiet movie time”. When we get a new show, I always watch it through with my kids to make sure I am not exposing them to something that I don’t want stuck in their little minds. This one is really cute! I like that the focus is friendship and working together. Such a good message to take away for littles. I love the bright colors in the show and it’s always to good to watch someone faced with a problem, and then see what they do to solve it.
The DVD releases on June 30 so all can enjoy.
It has five My Little Pony Friendship Is Magic
episodes and runs for 110 minutes; it also includes a bonus Sing Along. This DVD is a great one for road trips! Because of the Play All feature, it’s long enough to keep those little minds occupied and stop them from asking “Are we there yet??” every five minutes. At that point, the road trip is intolerable for everyone in the car, so why not have a little Pony Problem Solving in the background? 🙂
