“I really don’t know why it is that all of us are so committed to the sea, except I think it’s because in addition to the fact that the sea changes, and the light changes, and ships change, it’s because we all came from the sea. And it is an interesting biological fact that all of us have in our veins the exact same percentage of salt in our blood that exists in the ocean, and, therefore, we have salt in our blood, in our sweat, in our tears. We are tied to the ocean. And when we go back to the sea – whether it is to sail or to watch it – we are going back from whence we came. -John F. Kennedy
I am excited to announce that I am an Ambassador for Discover Boating. The snow has thawed and summer is finally here-hurray! Summertime means that it is now time to get the whole family out of the house and into the water. Did you know that there were more people boating in 2013 than in recent years?
“Americans are taking to the water in record numbers: Of the 241.9 million adults in the US in 2013, 36.6%, or 88.5 million, participated in recreational boating at least once during 2013 – one of the highest percentages on record.”-National Marine Manufacturers Association
A bit about Discover Boating
I grew up on the shore in New Jersey my grandfather was a fisherman and for as far back I can remember I was always around water. One of the greatest memories I have from when I was quite young was when we all took sailboating lessons together. I was in high school at the time and the last thing I wanted to do was hang out with my family. Nevertheless, I agreed to take the lessons and it ended up being pretty fun. We were all stuck on a boat
together whether we liked it or not and we all HAD to work together. If you love being on or near the water you will know that nothing feels quite as wonderful as the feeling you get when being on the wide open sea.
Father’s Day (June 15) is a very popular day to get on the water-since many Dad’s love fishing, boating, waterskiing, etc. My father-in-law is a fishing fanatic but unfortunately went through heart surgery the beginning of this year so this year we will have to sit out on boating. My Father-in-law, Mother-in-law, my husband and I went to Lake Havasu a few years ago and spent the afternoon on the lake fishing. We had such a fun time bonding with one another on the beautiful lake. Every Father’s Day I think back to the special memories we made and I can’t wait to do that again with my Father-in-law again soon.
If you are thinking about renting a boat this summer make sure you read the Rent, Charter and More eight things you need to know before renting a boat over at DiscoverBoating.com.
DiscoverBoating.com currently has ‘Stories of Discovery’ videos. These documentary-style videos feature real boaters (including country music star, Jake Owen). Oh and make sure you have your tissues ready when watching, Good Run, about a man’s life journey by boat. It’s a beautiful and touching story and I highly recommend it.
Submit your best Independence Day boating photos for Discover Boating’s Facebook photo contest that is running mid-June through early July.
