The transition from womb to wide, wide, world is a scary one. I’m sure it feels like Bizzarro World to our littlest ones. Instead of being in a small water world with perfect homeostasis and muffled noises and lights, it’s a big, bright, loud world that’s dry, hot, cold, itchy, and everything else. Swaddling helps, a lot. By swaddling your newborn you give him back a bit of the coziness he left behind. You also help control the sudden, jerky motions and avoid the baby startling himself awake.
I absolutely love muslin swaddle blankets. The outfit swaddlers I received at my baby shower completely baffled me in the middle of the night changes and as my babies get big rather quickly, those little outfits only fit for about two or three wearings. But even now at four months, my little guy still likes to be swaddled in the muslin blankets. In fact, when he’s tired and I start to wrap him up he smiles.
Swaddle Designs makes swaddling even easier, having mercy on the sleep-deprived parents of newborns: each of their swaddle blankets includes a tag with picture instructions to take you step-by-step through the swaddling process. Since they’ve just introduced their Swaddle Singles they sent me two to try and are offering two to one lucky reader as well!
Muslin blankets are airy 100% cotton, making them perfect even in warm temperatures. With each washing they get softer. They are easy to use for swaddling, and they double as play blankets, nursing covers, and more. The more you use them the softer they get, and I have found these Swaddle Designs muslins to be even softer than my older muslin blankets. Swaddle Designs muslin blankets are a generous size (46in square) so even my giant baby is easily covered. My little guy likes to talk to the pandas on his blanket, and he also likes to chew on them. We joke that muslin is his favourite snack food.
Muslin blankets are baby essentials, and with so many designs to choose from you can easily coordinate. Any parent would love one (or two, or four!) They come in pretty gift boxes, ready for a bow and a baby.
One lucky reader will win two muslin singles from Swaddle Designs!
